Amino Acid
The fundamental molecular building blocks of peptides and proteins. Twenty standard amino acids are encoded by the human genome, each containing a central carbon atom bonded to an amino group (–NH₂), a carboxyl group (–COOH), a hydrogen atom, and a unique side chain (R group). Peptide chains are assembled via peptide bonds linking amino acids in sequence.
