Blood-Brain Barrier

A highly selective semipermeable membrane formed by tightly connected endothelial cells lining brain capillaries, supported by astrocytes and pericytes. It restricts most peptides from entering the CNS from circulation. However, some short peptides such as Semax, Selank, and Dihexa cross the BBB through various mechanisms including intranasal delivery via the olfactory pathway.
