GLP-1/GIP Dual Agonist

A compound class that simultaneously activates both the GLP-1 receptor and the GIP receptor. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) is the first and currently only FDA-approved dual agonist in this class. Co-activation of GLP-1R and GIPR produces superior glycemic control and weight loss compared to GLP-1 receptor agonism alone, driven by complementary mechanisms across the pancreas, hypothalamus, and adipose tissue. Also referred to as a "twincretin."
