GnRH

Full name: Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone

A 10-amino-acid hypothalamic neuropeptide that stimulates the pituitary to secrete LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). The basis for peptides such as triptorelin, leuprolide, and gonadorelin. Paradoxically, continuous GnRH agonist exposure desensitizes the pituitary, forming the basis for chemical castration therapy in prostate cancer.
