In Vitro

Latin for "in glass." Research conducted outside a living organism in controlled laboratory conditions, typically in cell cultures, tissue samples, or test tubes. In vitro studies are the first step in peptide research, providing mechanistic insights but with limited direct relevance to whole-organism physiology. Results must be validated in vivo.
