Octreotide

A synthetic somatostatin analogue (8-amino-acid cyclic peptide) that suppresses GH, glucagon, and insulin secretion. FDA-approved for acromegaly, carcinoid tumors, and VIPomas. Used in research as a reference compound to understand somatostatin receptor (SSTR) pharmacology and its inhibitory effects on GH secretion — the opposite effect from GHRH analogues and GHSs.
