Oxytocin
A 9-amino-acid neuropeptide hormone produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary. Primary physiological roles include uterine contraction during childbirth and milk ejection during lactation. Also functions as a neuromodulator in social bonding, trust, and anxiety reduction. Studied as an intranasal agent for social cognition enhancement and PTSD.
